Welcome to WE ARE THE WORLD!

What if everyone cared?  How could our world be?

Today’s world is a global adventure with new and amazing opportunities. With the advancement of technology and travel your children are already working and living in a rich, diverse world wide community. St. John’s international celebration will provide St. John’s students with opportunities to explore and celebrate the world we live in.

Our celebration will begin February 11th. During that week each class will become immersed in their grade level’s international festival country. They will participate in  global learning activities as they broaden their cultural awareness and knowledge. Monday through Thursday daily lessons and experiences will focus on the country. Friday will be used as a day to complete projects and review and summarize their learning.

This K-8  program is based on an outline created by Allison Archer and Wes Wehunt to  involve the students in varied experiences while encouraging cross grade level sharing and family discussions. Students in all grades will be focusing on the same global objectives, and you and your family will be able to access the details of your child’s day through a school Wiki. This Wiki will include essential questions, movies watched, music heard, projects worked on, topics covered and some recordings of the day’s happenings. All you will need to do is log on to the Wiki, read, watch and listen. Then take the information as a jump start to creating meaningful dialogue between you and your child about his/her classes’ country, comparing and contrasting it to your family’s life experiences. We encourage you to not only use this Wiki to foster some family talk, but also to broaden your own cultural awareness.

By the week’s end each class will have created a country related bulletin board and a poster board display. These poster board displays will be shared during the school’s multicultural fair during the next week.

We are very excited about spreading the news of how "We are the world" and being able to include the whole family in this exciting, cultural festival of learning. The big finale will be the International Festival where the children will perform their country’s dance on February 22nd.

Teachers will be using this site to collaborate with each other during our international studies week.
