Third Grade

In third grade, we will use the Time for Kids Going Places Web site to experiment with Portuguese, the national language of Brazil. We will listen to common phrases spoken in Portuguese and then we will record those sounds ourselves both in English and Portuguese using the "Sound Recorder." We'll save these files into our own folders on the file server.

Fourth Grade

In fourth grade, we will learn about the legend of the Russian Princess Anastasia. As a class, we will read the last few fictional "diary entries" from Carolyn Meyer's book "Anastasia: The Last Grand Duchess." We will also discuss how the movie Anastasia theorizes that she became an orphan. Finally, each student will decide what he or she thinks happened to Anastasia and will create a visual representation of that possibility using Storybook Weaver software. We'll read each others' endings.

Fifth Grade

In Fifth grade, we will begin by learning a bit about South Africa by taking a virtual tour of one of the biggest cities, Cape Town. Students will take notes and answer questions about what they see by completing this worksheet below. Soon after, we will begin making our very own travel commercials. We'll start by watching some examples of travel commercials on YouTube. Then, we will collect images into our own folders and import them into Windows Movie Maker. From there, we'll write a script for our commercial and use the tools in Windows Movie Maker to produce 1 minute commercials of our own.
