WHAT YOU CAN BRING TO THIS PROJECT
Please feel free to use the curricular items that have been posted on this wiki for your grade. However, we anticipate that many teachers will be inspired to bring their many talents and experiences to this project. Feel free to create your own curricular materials leading to a deeper understanding of the assigned essential questions. Some materials listed require modifications for the grade level you teach. We can't wait to see how you will enrich this project.
REQUIRED ELEMENTS
Essential Questions
We will lead our children to a greater understanding of the essential questions as written for the entire school to provide unity and a common experience.
Shared Experiences
This is fundamental to the purpose of this project encouraging cross grade level sharing and family discussions. This also provide a shared, communal focus to our global perspecitves.
Biographies
This has been created to be performed cross-curricularly. All teachers of each grade should communicate prior to the International Festival to discuss who will lead their children in lessons pertaining to the biographies. Also, teachers are not limited to biographies on their wiki pages. Please see a member of the curriculum team (JJ, AA, KL) if you would like to remove a biography and study another. Additions are welcome and encouraged. Biographies may also be embedded into language arts instruction.
Language Arts
We will provide a booklist of all multicultural literature at St. John's. In addition to the biography materials listed, we encourage teachers to read and discuss literature from their country with a focus on the essential question. Day 1 will include a shared experience of folktale readings.
Bulletin Board
We ask you to pick and choose form classroom work to create a bulletin board showcasing your country's culture. Feel free to draw from any or all curriculum areas and work completed to create this board. We will take time to share these bulletin boards with the entire school community.
Multicultural Fair
Please choose a few items that represent your country study to be displayed on poster board at the Multicultural Fair. In this way, all St. John's students will play a part in the Multicultural Fair.
